Does anyone use Strontium Ranelate for their osteopor... - NRAS
Does anyone use Strontium Ranelate for their osteoporosis ? Does anyone use it with Methotrexate as well for Rheumatoid Arthritis ?
Not strontuim ranelate but alendronic acid & MTX if it helps & I'm osteoporotic borderline osteopenic It does work to preserve density but a different way. I appreciate it's not the same composition but my Rheumy prefers this as she there's evidence of possible heart issues with SR & my local health authority are hot on such meds at the mo as I've also had to prn another of my meds which can also result in the same issues in long term use. There is also the fact that AA is cheaper than SR too, hmmmm!
Hi. nomoreheels, I wish I could still wear mine, I tried alendronic acid but I was getting more pain with it, so i have to try this one now which is a powder, not looking forward to it,as they say, keep your chin up and bear it
That's a shame. Honestly?........ it took me a while to decide whether I wanted to take AA as my dad died of oesophageal cancer & when I read the patient information leaflet it concerned me. I posted a question on here & based on that made an informed decision to take it as I considered the risk of fractures was a greater risk for me so just bit the bullet & follow the " how to take" instructions to the letter. Hope you're get on with SR. Were you also given a calcium supplement to take daily? I was prescribed AdCal-D3 at the same time.·
Sorry to hear about your dad, my father died from leukemia, it is terrible to see them fading away. I am going to see the doctor and see what other medication I can take, or I could ring the rheumy nurse. I also was prescribed AdCal - D3 which I take twice a day, have you had any pain from the AA ?
Yours also, been 21 years this Sept. but still miss him terribly & sure you do yours. When researching before deciding whether to take AA I came across another called raloxifene which I dismissed as it would seem it's generally only used in postmenopausal women & as I'm still going through the menopause didn't question if it could be alternative for me but if you are it's worth asking the question if it would be suitable for you. I couldn't really tell you if I have any pain from AA as I started taking it around the same time as reducing my NSAID from daily to prn so have been in more pain than normal anyway & couldn't determine which it is so can't help there, sorry.
not SA as i was informed that its not NICE ok'd any longer so now its alendronic once a week and 400 mg calcium every day i dont take alendronic
Hi, kasp, thank you for your reply, I tried alendronic acid and I was getting more pain for some reason, I am really worried about taking the strontium ranelate, I think I will have to go back to the doctor and talk about it because I take methotrexate as well
