I can not walk for long before I get this pain which the specialist said is bursitis, he has seen me when it is paining but does not appear to very concerned or give any treatment. I find if I rest it helps, but you can not do this when you have a busy life.

I used to get bursitis on my pelvic bone close to the hip. My rheumy gave me a steroid injection, no better, so she gave me another a few weeks later. That worked.

I had this very badly. I saw a podiatrist who made orthotics for inside my shoes & it has been a miracle cure! Try it...

I had bursitis in my right hip several years ago before ever being diagnosed with RA. It lasted over a year, maybe two. The only relief I got was from steroid injections. I had probably 3-4 injections over a period of a year or two. I think I had an MRI to diagnose it. I do know the hip doctor I saw said to think of it like you would a blister on your heel and every time you move it it's like a shoe rubbing up and down irritating it. The good news is it eventually went away, but it took over a year. Hope this helps.

I had a hip replacement in my left hip in 2009...because I left the country afterwards I never had any follow up appts with surgeon. Last year asked to have follow up as it was giving me some pain and very sore. Went for a follow up and told Bursitis due to my ' gait.'.and that he was more concerned with right hip (had had an xray of both) that was in November 13. I had no pain with r hip but in Feb had another replacement and it has settled the Bursitis too, both hips are great. Both hips OA but apparently can have both OA and RA and the RA diagnosed after having scan of hands. Been on MTX now for a couple of months and seem ok but worried about the long term effect. Had steroid injection couple of times as told can take time for MTX to get into system.

Have you had xray's ?

I am glad that you are feeling the benefits of all this, as it sounds that it has taken some time to get things amended. I have not had xrays, I tell GP and specialist they diagnose bursitis and just give steroid but only usually if I ask. I do not think they understand how painful it is. Many thanks.

hello diamondlights, My left hip also gives me pain if I walk or stand , but mostly it starts throbbing when I sit too long. or lie on my l side in bed. I too have slipped discs in my spine, but what I would like to ask, has anyone got what appears to be one leg shorter through all this? All my trouser and pj's appear to have one long leg, that did not have before. I am stuck at the moment, as my hospital has lost the rheumy this year, and am in middle of being transferred to a hospital 28 miles away. so would appreciate some advice. xx rita

Hi bluetit33, Yes I have one leg longer than the other to. Physio woman several years ago, before I was diagnosed with RA said that this was so. I also have wear and tear in spine joint five I think. I suppose if you are wonky and not balanced it would cause problems, I also have a curve in my spine, and one hip sticks out further than the other and also one shoulder higher than the other, but what can be done. I have visited osteopaths in the past and get pain free for a short while then back to how I was. lol
