Does anyone experience itchy armpits? I have a friend who also has RA and says there is a name for it and it can be severe.

Has. He/She tried changing deodorant ?

I was going to say only if I use deodorants!

Thanks Bunty62. Maybe since the onset of RA my body developed an allergy to my deodorant. It’s possible, right?

Possibly. I have certainly developed all sorts of allergies I didn't have before onset of inflammatory issues. Dove deodorant was particularly bad for me. I just don't use deodarant at all these days.

I have psoriasis too so tend to avoid all chemicals when possible. Certain washing powders set me off, plus household cleaning stuff. Non of which bothered me previously.

To be honest, I have itchy everything at the moment! Dont know whether it's the RD or medication but driving me nuts. Sorry, I know this is no use.

Thanks for your response. I know mine is not due to medication because it started at the onset of RA before I was diagnosed and started treatment. I guess this is just one more thing we have to endure.

Hi MFrancis227

I get itching with MTX but also have prescriptions for antihistamine that helps.

However, fungal infections of the skin folds (armpits, groin, beneath breasts) can occur, especially in humid conditions or with obesity.

My armpits itch after shaving them since RA began. Something soothing applied might help if due to RA/drugs.

But best ask GP/RA helpline.

I forgot to mention that I have RA and experience itchy armpits as well as a friend who has the same experience, but more severe. It never bothered me until the onset of RA. Thanks for your response.

I use dove roll on deodorant as safer than sprays. Funnily I have no hair under my armpits anymore and not sure why. I had inflammation and itch under one arm a while ago and bought some cream from the pharmacy at boots and it took the redness and irritation away almost instantly. x
