Hi, I too had a fear, not of needles as such, but of steroid needles into joints, always hurt me like crazy. My shoulder has been really bad for a couple of years and last Monday Consultant put a steroid injection into it, it didn't hurt, just felt the needle into back of shoulder (didn't see it) then warmth, not even a burning or stinging sensation, so I am actually left wondering if he actually did it! Try not to worry too much x

I had the injection which didn't hurt apart from the initial point of contact and he put it in front I am wondering if it actually worked cause no improvement how long do they leave it before they do any other treatments xx

My husband had steroid injections into his shoulder in January and said he didn't feel a thing, and the pain relief was almost instantaneous. Clemmie

They're much better than you would ever imagine. One of the reasons is that the first thing that goes into your joint is a bit of anaesthetic, and then the steroid. I've had lots of injections into my shoulder joint and none has been painful or sore. Just don't look at the needle!

After your injection you'll need someone else to drive you home and it's best to rest your shoulder & really do very little that involves your shoulder for 2 days so that as much as possible of the steroid sits in the joint for a good long time. That's easier said than done, but it's the advice the doctor at work gave me (she authorised 2 days off work) and it made a difference.

I hope it goes well!

I have had many steroid injections in my shoulder joint. Usually they numb it with an injection and then infect the steroid in at least that's what my doctor does. It doesn't hurt. I have only felt some pressure, not painful at all. I was hoping for a steroid injection today but it doesn't look like I'm going to get it. Try not to worry it really isn't a big deal and it doesn't hurt. Good luck!
