Just to let you all know - I have, today, been awarded full TIER 1, ILL-HEALTH RETIREMENT from the teaching profession!!!

I am still shaking from the news! Thank you to all of you who have offered advice and support. I didn't encounter any hurdles at all. The OH team at Essex County Council were brilliant, my Rheumy team were fantastic, I didn't need an additional independent medical and my Headteacher was supportive throughout. I'm not suggesting that it has been easy, but it feels good to know that my RA is recognised and not an 'invisible disease'.

Scary, but exciting times ahead.....

Just a thought now.... I applied for PIP last October (still not heard anything, but no surprise there!). What happens if they find me fit for work when OH have retired me with 'no prospect of gainful employment before retirement year'?!!!!

Hi there Lillibet, the PIP assessment isn't about employment, just about how well you can manage. It's ESA that is about your ability to work. I too applied in October and just received my assessment appointment yesterday - 24weeks from the start of the process, hang in there it will come eventually!

Join the ranks of retired teachers. I was lost to the profession in 1980 but you never loose your experiences. I have used them in Guides, scouts, D of E, tai chi, and preaching and so on. You can also mentor new teachers in your home. best wishes to you and enjoy the freedom of determining your day with out bells. Sending out hugs.
