Hi Crazyjo, I have taken Naproxen recently, but I have Asthma and have had to stop taking it as it was making my symptoms worse. I also suffer with reflux and have an hiatus hernia, but cant say it upset my stomach, but I was already taking 20mg omeprazol twice a day so this may have protected my stomach. Sorry you are unable to take these as they do help.

Hi jan, I on. 80mg of omprazole a day as had surgery twice to fix reflux and hernia, but still have a delicate stomach, on quite a few very strong pain killers but know if could take anti imflammatories it would help more

Jo

I cannot take anti-inflammatories due to IBS-D, I can only take Paracetamol, Co-Drymol or Tramadol for the pain. Have you spoken to your rheumy team regarding your predicament as I was able to have steroid injections more frequently because of this until I got the right medication for me.

Steroids didn't help much, at mo I am on zomorph, cocodamal, tramadol and amitryptline. As well as the tocilizumab infusion and methotrexate so a fair bit going into system but still in pain :-(

Poor you it is horrible trying to find the right combination. I too struggle to find an anti inflam that will work and not upset my tum. Naproxen works best for me but I really can't tolerate it, even on 40mg omeprasole. I've heard that one of the gentlest on the tum is Celebrex. I could take this with no omeprasole at all. Sadly it didn't work for me but I know lots of others find this one really effective so it might be worth having a chat with your gp or consultant?? I'm currently trying meloxicam and I can tolerate it with omeprasole and just waiting to see if I get any real benefit. I usually take for a good 10 days to allow them to get into my system to know if they're actually helping or not.

Good luck, Rosie x

Hello

I have problems with NSID(s) when I first had my complaint I started to get light blue coloured bruises over my body, they were painful, eventually after several years the give me Celebrex (Cox2 Inhibitor) that up to today is the only one that works for me. Not much choice I suppose

Also I was suffering from pains and sickness in the tummy

I took Naproxen briefly this summer when the Diclofenac issue made GP's change the anti-inflammatories of their patients. I have never had such insane heartburn and despite 2 x 20mg Omeprazole, I had it even raging up in my throat, face and even into my ears. Thought I was going mad. Had to stop Naproxen as it raised my ALT. Once I stopped Naproxen and changed to Ibuprofen, my heartburn vanished and my ALT became normal again.

I don't normally get asthma much but aspirin brings on a very noticeable attack so I'm not allowed anything at all in that family of drugs, all I can have is co-codamol! xx

I can't take any NASAIDS or steroids or much if anything really. I have just asked my GP for some pain relief after two years if agony and panadol osteo not doing much, he started me in 100 mg extended release Tramadol as I have got to the point that I was contemplating not working due to the pain. Good luck I hope you find something that works

Hi, yes am on same as you as well as omprazole. Previously had stomach ulcer and had two operations on stomach so no anti imflammatories allowed got me. I not finding tocilizumab is helping all my joints so think they may try me on an alternative at some point, think getting frustrated now as been like this since end of 2010 and on a lot of strong pain killers but still struggling.

Hi,

I know what you mean re Tocilizumab as I have had both knees replaced in the last two years and need my hips doing next so it does not seem to be slowing the disease down although it is helping with flare ups. I was really good on enbrel but kept getting infections so was taken off it. Luckily for us there are new drugs coming out all the time hope you get sorted soon. Before i was diagnosed with Rheumatoid lung disease I had a infa red sauna in my garage which really helped with pain etc. Good luck Donna

if they are taken alongside something like Omeprazole this is minimised (I do, however, have other side-effects - retention of fluid).

Hello, my rheumy suggested I take a daily probiotic to help protect my stomach from the NSAID. I'm taking meloxicam. There is an NSAID that comes with something to protect your tummy. I was proscribed that at one point as well. I can't remember the name of it, but it started with a "V". Sorry I'm not of more help. My rheumy hadn't heard of it, but thought it was an interesting combination & I think he wanted me to hold onto my prescription (which I got from a sports medicine doctor) if the meloxicam didn't work. Just hit google and this was the first thing that showed up - might be helpful for you - webmd.com/rheumatoid-arthri...

Ask your doctor about a Probiotic or Folic Acid. I. Take both as a Probiotic is like eating 10 yogurts and kills many bacteria. I have to take it when medicines upset my stumach with diarrhea and side effects! Folic Acid is what the doctor wanted me to take to counter the sickness that can come with these cancer drugs.
