Hi - Anyone out there on Celebrex, wondered if there were any side effects as I have never heard of this drug. Docs have taken me off Naproxen as I reacted to it (covered in a rash). I am also taking Leflunomide. Thanks.

That's good then. Thanks for reply.x

Been on Celebrex a Cox 2 Inhibitor for over ten years now, It is the only NSID I can take, seems ok

same potential side effects as naproxen, but as its a slightly different type of antiinflammatory med, it won't necessarily do the same as the naproxen did to you. Its meant to have slightly less gastro effects, but that still doesn't mean it will be totally OK with everyone. Unless you are allergic to all NSAIDs, then its definitely worth trying ones from the different groups to see if you tolerate a different one better. I went through about five different ones.

My wife is on it and does not seem have any problems. It. Was a replacement for Naproxen which had become less effective for her.

Hello Megan2005, I have taken Celebrex years ago and it worked really well for me. I don't remember any side effects. Everyone is different and medications can effect one person and not another. Good luck, I hope it helps to give you pain relief.

I was on Celebrex for some time then switched to Arcoxia when they briefly took it off the market. The only side-effect I've noticed is a bit of indigestion/reflux but that's controlled by a PIP inhibitor and so much less a problem than other anti-inflammatories. Hope it suits you x

I heard that it was withdrawn for a period of time, do you know why?

It was withdrawn along with Voltorox, not sure I spelt that right. Both very similar. I thought they were amazing along with others. I asked a little while back if I could go back on Celebrex instead of Naproxen. I think it has something to do with cost, but since I am on warfarin due to a DVT in my leg so now I am unable to have any anti inflammatories anymore. I am still not sure the reason why it was withdrawn.

Ok thanks for that. Must be ok if they are prescribing it again. X

Was seriously warned about celebrex by my pharmacist, have a feeling that this has been taken off the market in some countries but I may be wrong.

I was also taken off Celebrex some time ago now and started on Etoricoxib along with omeprazole, I was told Etoricoxib was more effective. Never had any problems with either.

I think it was risks of cardiac events that flagged it up as a no no. My aunt was on it years ago and thought it was great relieved all her pains but then her Doctor took her off it. That was in Eire. My mum in the UK wanted to try it but her GP wouldn't prescribe it. Think those that were on it were advised and made informed decisions risk v benefit. Quality of life more important than risks attached. Think GP's in UK are relucant to prescribe it.
