Hello everyone does anyone use braces or splints? Is considered harmful?
No, I got wonderful splints pre scribed by my amazing occupational therapist. I have three different sets for hands, wrists, resting and feet! I don't know about braces though.
Ask if you can see a OT xxx
eHello
Sadly I sometimes wear splints on my arms to take the weight of my arms and shoulders, when I go to bed sometimes and during the day.
Also I wear support gloves at night when in bed. Sometimes I suppose they must cause weakness if you wear them all the time, the gloves are great and I find them very comfortable.
During the day I also have splints for my right wrists and fingers, they were made up by the OT out of neoframe.
There are splints for most things I am not keen on the arm splints
Good Luck

Hi I use wrist splints every night, sometimes for my right hand during the day, otherwise I get woken up by numbness/ pins & needles several times a night. I also used splints when I had double tennis elbow, I found them so helpful, without them I couldn't have carried on. I hope this helps You. Take care, Rie x
I wear splints on my wrists occasionally at night. I have tendency to cross my arms when I sleep. This leads to carpal tunnel syndrome. When my RA was less well controlled I had to wear braces through the day at to prevent carpal tunnel symptoms. I cannot see any problems in using braces etc if they provide relief.
Hope this helps

Hi I've not had braces or splints prescribed but I can suffer from painful wrists at night. I like to tuck the covers under my chin with my wrists bent and I can wake up in agony. I get around this by sleeping with my hands and wrists under my pillow just in front of where my head lays. This helps me remember to keep them straight, it's also nice and cool so that can help too.
I've done it for so long now that I now tend to sleep with hands and wrists fairly straight.
I hope you manage to get something sorted. Rx
