Face is totally swollen, eyes have hoods, glands are still swollen from Mumps ( had a scan yesterday to confirm this) am exhausted, dizzy at times, have headaches, have developed mouth ulcers today and keep having to lie down. Have also been wheezy this week but this has improved over the last couple of days. Started Methotrexate on Monday night and took folic acid today as instructed. Have left messages for the rheum nurses but no one has called back. I know I need to give this a go but now still have joint pains, slight deafness and gland problems which I originally went to the Drs with but have collected a whole load of extra problems not to mention weight in the process. Not a happy bunny. Any advice? On 10 mg Methotrexate weekly, 10mg folic acid weekly and 10 mg/ 15mg Prednisolone daily alternating between the doses as well as paracetamol/ co-codamol and Tramadol as necessary.
Have been on and off Prednisolone since last February... - NRAS
Have been on and off Prednisolone since last February but am also recovering from Mumps and started Methotrexate on Monday. Feel terrible.
I'm sorry you're feeling so awful. When I was on mtx, I started on a low dose...so I didn't have many strong side effects in the beginning. It really didn't do anything for me even after increasing my dose...still had pain, stiffness, so my doctor took me off of it. I do hope you get some relief soon. Hang in there.
Hello
If you cannot get a hold of the RA nurse have words with your GP AND EXPLAIN WITH URGENCY. The other thing is call the A and E help line. The medication you are taking is an immunosuppresent so it could be holding back your recovery, so I would say it is important to take medical advice as mentioned above. Did you tell the hospital what you were taking, did you discuss with your GP the MXT ?.
Good luck

If your face has just swollen up since taking the Mtx I would seek urgent medical attention - as we are at the weekend this will need to be the out-of-hours dr service for your surgery.

Often people are advised not to take MTX while they have an active infection. You should get advice before taking another dose.
