I have decided when having a flare up not to attempt to peel and chop a Squash or any root vegetable. I nearly got the chain saw out!
Ouch!: I have decided when having a flare up not to... - NRAS

You all make me laugh! It was the butlers day orf!
The maid was busy spring cleaning so it was down to me.
I am going to be peering into the vegetable ready preared freezer section in future. Butternut Squash has a very nasty attitude xx
Only way I can do that kind of job is because I have a wonderful right angle cutting knife. I got mine outside the UK (from an OT) and haven't seen one as sturdy or with as good a blade as mine in the UK, but it makes short work of squash as well as being perfectly fine to cut other soft or smaller things. Its all about having the handle as a vertical grip that doesn't take anywhere near as much grip strength. Ask your OT about adapted knives, but also definitely get in a stock of frozen veg for times like this.
Lol I know what you mean I got some butternut squash before Christmas to roast and it was so hard to chop. However Jamie Oliver recommends roasting it in its skin which works brill.
I might be wrong, but I think one of the "this morning"chefs (poss phil vickery) roasted the squash in it's skin and peeled it later.
I know for turnip, or swede, you bake them like a jacket potato.
Or of course win the lottery!
Hi I was in the same boat chopping squash and parsnips for soup I have a big Japanese chopper knife when I use it everyone stays well away I make a bit of a mess but it will get things to smaller size to handle

You should see me trying to dice swede! I gingerly get my knife slightly embedded in the top of it then swing it onto the chopping board like a sledgehammer. Not severed a limb yet but last time my hands hurt to bu**ery so I only buy it when there is a willing (OK - reluctant) slave about to do it for me. Hadn't thought of the chainsaw option. As the hedge cutter is now beyond me I suspect I'd end up without feet before I managed to get it anywhere near the veg though!
