Hi Eve, I was 21 when I was diagnosed (now 31) it was hard getting it so young, but you get stronger in time. Just keep taking your meds and attend hospital appointments. I'm also on mtx. Regarding the drinking thing, to be honest I only have the odd wine here and there... xx
Hi Eve! I had symptoms from the age of 17 but was diagnosed when I was roughly 21. I thought is be very restricted by my meds but have managed to do what I wanted - I live in Japan now and my meds are available here. I'm 24 now and I'm stable as far as my health goes. arthritis doesn't have to define you, you can keep doing what you want to, push for the right medication for you, try different combinations, look at your diet. Please let me know if you need any further advice, rach x
Hi Eve I was diagnosed at the age of 9 and im 31 now. As the arthritis has grown with me it got easier to manage and learn my limitations but never stopped me from doing anything. Ive been on lots of different medication and have now got one that suits me but it was trial and error. Dont be shy to ask the doctor questions and be clear you understand what you have been told, as it can be quite confusing st times. Good luck with uni.
Hi eve. I am 19 and I have mild arthritis in my knees and elbows so far. This limits me as I adore the gym and I cannot exercise much. But I WILL NEVER GIVE UP!
I will continue to fight and try new solutions. I know there should be a cure and hell I want to get rid of this as soon as possible.
I've just been diagnosed recently and i'm 21! Ever since my diagnosis I have started worrying about my health, every little thing that feels wrong or abnormal to me I start thinking i'm immediately dying! I've been on my meds for the past month or so and I haven't ever felt as bad in pain as i do now! Hopefully everything will calm down soon. Just know that you aren't alone and there are other people our age going through this!
Welcome to the forum. We had a similar question on here a few months ago, which may be worth looking up, as some other people responded to say that they were a similar age:
Hi, sorry to hear you've got this awful disease. While it's lovely to hear from you, and you might be able to pick up some tips from we 'over 25s' I wonder if NRAS would consider putting a thread on here especially for those of you who are under 25? A sort of youth club where you could share problems unique to younger folk.
Hey Sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with this! I was diagnosed when I was 17 - now 19. It has been hard mainly trying to find the right medication but they'll sort you out you just have to try be patient. In terms of going out and stuff like that I completely see where you are coming from, I am still trying to find medication that suits me but especially in the past it has been hard when friends are out and you just can't do it the same way. I find that meeting with friends at other times like for lunch and other things like that make it much easier. I have just got offers to university so looking forward to being there too! Hope it goes okay for you...if you want to talk just let me know - Beth
I'm 29 and was diagnosed 10 years ago at Uni too. I didn't start methotrexate until I finished Uni (was on Sulfasalazine at Uni). I did take the no drinking thing very serious to start with but it's tough when your a Uni student and you just want to be like everyone else. I had a few drinks but tried not to 'binge drink' you have to weigh up a good night vs your liver. Now I'm a little bit older and with hindsight my liver will always come first. I've been through Sulfasalazine, Lefleunomide, Methotrexate, Hydroxychloroquine and now on Humira an anti tnf drug (although just stopped it to try for a baby in 5 months and it's crap). If you ever need a chat with someone who has been through those Uni days just let me know x
