Does taking MTX make you put on weight or am I just u... - NRAS
Does taking MTX make you put on weight or am I just using that as an excuse!!!!??
For me, it was an appetite killer. I lost a good stone and a half. But after I came off MTX I went on a long course of steroids (am still on it) so I put it all back on again,
i think it depends on the person. Mostly I'd say people lose weight if they are nauseous etc.BUT some do find they put on weight. I think it is hampering me losing weight but this could just be a coincidence. I've put on quite a few pounds lately doh!
p.s yes a lot of people put on weight on the steroids I'd be huge if i had a course right now haha
On steroids my weight on the scsles crept up slightly but my clothes got tight quickly from blosting but I found that mtx made me so nauseous that it did not make me put on weight.
Could I suggest that mtx is innocent on this score, but maybe the pain relief medication as they often slow down the digestive system. Also if u r struggling with pain at the moment u may b less active.
Hi, I don't know if I did put on weight due to the meds but since coming off them the weight is just falling off me! I don't mind but I found it hard to lose weight when on them...maybe it was.just that unaware I ate more. I'm not sure but am certainly losing it now!!! Also if you are in pain it's very hard to do a lot so maybe that doesn't help. Maryxx
Hi, I did put weight on however blame it on my sudden inactivity with the onset of RA. Even when MTX made me so ill my weight just sat there waiting till I ate again! Lol
Also I found I treat myself with more sugary food especially when I am so sore and unhappy....bring on the chocolate please!
I keep hoping that when my RA is under control I will then be able to concentrate on losing a little weight or a lot if this continues
P
I put on weight but blamed it on the Sulphalalazine as it altered my palette so much that I now like sugary food I also think Naproxen causes wieght gain, bloating and fluid retention. After that I'm running out of excuses!! Plus I hardly drink alcohol at all now, bummer.........Am trying to lose what I've put on but it's very stubborn..............
It appears to be a vicious cycle----finding comfort from the pain with sugary foods. I do too. And yet my rheumy says that sugary foods (carbs) feed the pain and inflammation. Unfortunately, I have noticed that the pain is much worse when I indulge. I never thought that the sulfasalazine was leading me into the cycle. Thanks for the idea.....At least it sounds like a good excuse!
HI Pauline, I've just put a post up same as yours...ooops, didn't see yours....yours is the same question that I asked lol....will go read your replies
