Having seen the consultant last week i have been taken off MTX and put on Mycophenolate, does anyone know anything about this as i have not heard of it before?
It comes with the usual amount of scary information and as today is my first day on it i was hoping maybe some people hear might have tried it.

I've been on this site for a few years now and had never heard of Mycophenolate at all but having looked it up I see its a DMARD so not sure why I've not heard of it until today?
I'm now off MTX so am interested in learning more about alternatives - having tried and failed Hydroxy and Sulfa. I hope some people will know more from having tried it but do please let us know how this works for you. Tilda x
Well I bet your consultant knows what it is! and probably knows it might be better for your liver at a guess lol Hope it works really quickly for you, i tried quite a few before i settled on Arava so good luck xxx
This is a DMARD, as Tilda says, but is used more commonly in some other rheumatic conditions, such as lupus, and is not very commonly used in RA, which is why people on here haven't heard of it before. It would obviously be worth asking your rheumatology team why this less usual treatment is being suggested, but I am sure there are good reasons, and it may be that other options have been exhausted or are not appropriate in your particular case.
As it is not a common RA drug, unortunately we do not have information on this drug ourselves, but there is some information about it on the Arthritis Research UK site, though this may be the information your consultant has already given you. Here's a link to it:
