My foot is so swollen and itchy, it's driving me mad!

What can I do? The itchiness is driving me mad. Please help.

I find slapping on tons of moisturiser helps a bit. Hope it calms down soon

Ow ow ow my feet aren't swollen but the pain in the bottom of my feet it's like walking on broken glass and at night they are so hot can't bare them under duvet sometimes I think if I were to put my feet in water they would sizzle

Beachgirl, my feet were like that which led to my diagnosis last January. I was put on sulfasalizine and haven't had the broken glass feeling since--just the burning when I walk a lot. I have found nothing that helps that, but joining this site and reading about the trials that all of you are going through has helped me a lot. Thank you all so very much for sharing.

I saw the rheum for 1st time in Sept all my symptoms seemed to have vanished on the day!! Typical it alwayx happens even when I see the GP but he wouldn't start me on meds yet review again Dec gave me helpline for Nurse but some days are good and others well you know , plus I 'm off to see the chiropodist next month hope he can advise on insoles great big thick ones haha

Isn't that always how it is when you go to the dr? Suddenly you feel just great and you end up telling him how you were feeling but now you're fine, instead. I am in the U.S. and every appointment requires payment, so I always wait until I can't wait any longer. With my RA, I dropped a door on my foot and that is what started the foot problems. I thought I had just bruised it and went about my business. The next day I had the broken-glass feeling, and the following day I had that feeling it in both feet. I knew then that something was wrong. I bought one of every insole they had at the store, before I went to the doctor. None of them worked either, so I bought 3 new pairs of shoes that didn't help either. I ended up with the diagnosis of sero negative RA, steroids, followed by sulfasalazine and folic acid.

Poor you, we are so lucky having are NHS, and I'm glad someone is like me as soon as I get in that GP surgery I suuddenly feel better, you take care now no more dropping doors on you foot, I was rather wishing a pair of shoes that supported my feet would help. Sending hugs. Xxx

I hope you have better luck than I did with the shoes. Yes, NHS would be nice but there are a few pluses to the way it is here like I can see the rheumatologist anytime I choose and I can choose one that I like. I find the differences very interesting. Good luck in your quest for relief for your feet.

nburned skin, but it's fab for taking the itch and sting out of the skin instantly! It is a green gel, in a squeeze bottle. No limit on how you use it, just slather it on!

Yes this is my feet too! It is how my RA started alongside knees and wrists and my feet are just like that at this moment - sizzle and glass! x

Thanks for the replies and advice. Moisturiser helped a lot last night but I'm crazily uncomfortable today again.

Something really emollient like E45 or Eucerin lotions/creams. I found that when my feet were very much flaring that little veins would come up over the bridge of the foot and itch like mad. That's not here as I've no swelling at the mo. (Plenty of other foot madness/problems!) Someone recently told me to apply Vaseline to the feet at night, gently rubbiing on but letting the rest of it soak in overnight wearing a pair of comfy cotton socks to enable the Vaseline to sink in nicely. It is a good way of getting rid of dry skin which causes a lot of itchiness for many. However, as with all creams applied underfoot, I always take the utmost care when walking after so doing as the soles can be a bit slidey for awhile. Your inflammation and itching sounds like my feet when they were flaring. I hope they calm soon.

Hi, I sympathise with this problem. I find rubbing them with ice helps, if you can do that try soaking in iced water. Cools and soothes them - once you've got over he shock! Hope it helps.

I get it bad across the bridge of my foot and sometimes in the ankle. Drives me mad. I have a cream called Eurax which does the trick. Takes a few minutes to start working but works well.

My skin isn't dry at all, I moisturise them twice a day and have done for ages because I find it relaxing. I've heard cimzia can make you itchy, I've been on it 4 weeks. I'm going to try an antihistamine and carry on with ice packs.

Hi fruitcake, I've had the same itching, red, swollen and hot at my injection sites. Applying ice helps and also try essential oils like lavender for the itching - it really calms it down.Also peppermint has a really nice cooling effect.Hope it gets better soon.

I use lavender oil for a lot of things and find it really did help with itching anywhere,and the bonus is, used at night it helps me sleep.
