Bad flare up and my cough is back.

Hi everyone

In my last few blogs I told you that I had been having problems being out of breath and coughing all the time. I was taken off the MTX for in Jan for 4 months until I saw the chest doc.

I have had 2 scans done on my chest but not had the results of my second scan yet.

I was told to go back on the MTX at the end of April after seeing the chest doc as they did not think this was causing the problems.

I was given 2 inhalers, brown for the morning and night and blue for anytime needed.

The breathless was gone and the cough disappeared a couple of months ago.

I had a bad flare up nearly 2 weeks ago and since then along with the pain in many joints the cough is back worse than ever although I am not really out of breath but that could be down to taking the inhalers.

So I am wondering could this be because I am back on the MTX or does it mean that when I have a flare up my chest is going to bother me.

I have not bothered going to doc as I have a Rheumy appointment next WED.

I am worried now that I may need to come off the MTX.

My last blog I told everyone how well I was feeling after my holiday now I cannot believe how horrible I feel.

Hi Mary, so sorry you are feeling so poorly with this flare and cough and breathlessness. I can't answer your question but I do wonder if the RA might be the cause of chest problems perhaps - although it's more likely to be the MTX I guess? There are other DMARDs that don't impact on the chest so try not to worry too much. Easy to say I know. Tilda xx

I have pains in my chest which is the RA its affecting my ribs, but sibce being on mtx i have a cough and a sore throat, i also get short of breath and feel asthmatic, which i deel is causrd by the mtx. I would contact your rhumy nurse for advice.

Thanks for the replies.

I know the first scan did show something wrong in the lungs but not heard about the second specialist scan.

I am just so fed up just now.

I am coughing a lot at night and it is stopping me sleeping so I am really tierd in the morning and having to drag myself out of bed.

I will wait until Wed to see the Rheumy as I don't think phoning now will get me an appointment earlier.

Hi, I have had acid reflux for quite some time and a couple of months ago developed a cough especially at night. My doctor gave me beconase a nasal spray and it works! As long as I use the spray twice a day I don't cough. I take Omeprazole for the reflux but apparently this only works on the stomach and not on the irritation in the throat. Just a thought.
