if you can't take tablets because the side effects make you too ill then you shouldn't be forced too take them.

i took paracetamol while on tramadol, and also celebrex which i've stopped taking because it gave me chest pains.

i take the painkillers at differnent times but i don't know if you can take paracetamol and tramadol together

Hi Ratts, My GP said that I could take paracetamol and tramadol at the same time, but only pure paracetamol and not a tablet that had it in. ie. Co-Drymol.

If you can't tolerate naproxyn, ask your GP if you can try a different NSAID - there are loads of them and I know a lot of folk with spondyloarthritis (where NSAIDs are first line treatment) will go through 4 - 6 different ones over the course of treatment before they find one that relieves best with the least symptoms. Also, if you aren't taking a tummy protector, then ask about that too.

Best idea for checking drug interactions is asking the pharmacist - they have easier access that most other health professionals to that kind of drug information, though I personally do use an online interaction checker at drugs dot com (with the usual rider that this kind of thing doesn't replace medical advice). The online checker will point out any interaction at all, but not all of them are red flag ones - some are just nuisance value or have interactions that aren't dangerous (eg reducing the effectiveness slightly).

I take Tramadol with Dihydrocodeine, prescribed by my GP. Very effective for severe pain. I am supposed to take them alternately with each other every 2 hours but when my back was causing major problems that did not work so well, so I took them together every 4 hours. That works a treat for me.

I have recently had a knee replacement and the PCA was not workingfor me. The pain management team asked me about my pain relief and I was honest with them. They were quite happy for me to carry on taking them both together. I have to say, to the horror of the ward staff who kept on about `this goes against everything we have been taught'. My answer was 'You live and learn'.
