I'm going for a scan on my shoulders as the Rheumy nurse thinks the crash I had have now kicked of a flare up as I am having reduced movement in my left arm, I'm hurting rather bad in most joints at the moment, she mentioned a possible injection for my shoulder, what's it like please,

Philip

thank you in advance.

I hurry to answer! I have experience here, and not meaning to frighten you, but will your injection be image guided, they do it whilecthey look at the X-ray image? I had two in fact my first two ever as Ra started in shoulder, but I didn't know was Ra, and a savage, sorry a' sports medicine doctor ' injected my shoulder in is surgery and to put it mildly It didn't help!!!!

In the intervening years I have had good few steroid, injections, funnily enough, once I got the image guided one in a hospital, my shoulder settled down and hasn't troubled me since... Touch wood etc etc

Other joints got going and took over, but shoulder has been fine. A word of caution, make sure it's expertly done under image guidance or by a total competent, the pain if the injection goes in the wrong place, ie. The muscle is awful.

Gina.

By the way the injection itself did nt hurt at all. You being a boy maybe a little, but nothing to worry about :) will do more good than harm, hopefully willresolve pain and settle it down, my inflammation was in the centre of the joint, would' nt have shown on xray.

I was told I have OA in my left RC joint, cant even pretend to what that is lol and the gap is closing up a little so the tenden or muscle might be getting trapped.

High dose of oral steroid Prednisolone sorted my shoulder and knees out back in October and it hasn't returned there yet I'm relieved to say - although my elbows and a shoulder are hurting a bit tonight - but I think that's just from me (or Mii) being a little fat birdy flapping my wings over enthusiastically on the Nintendo Wii Plus last night! I've not had a shoulder done but i've had knee and elbows done.Agree with Gina you need a good doctor or an image guide. It stings a little and you do need to rest for 48 hrs after but the benefits i had were worth it

Good Luck

Hi Philip.

RC is rotator cuff....not that knowing the name of the muscles helps but I think quite a sweet name. My OH had this too, and couldn't flap his arms like a bird any more. But had a steroid jab and was fine for about 10 years - it's only just come started to come back. But do rest after and don't rush straight to physio to strengthen muscles. Polly

Hi Philip, I have to have steroid injections into my shoulder because of the RA and I also have problems with the rotator cuff which the physio is trying to sort out for me. My consultant injects into the back of the shoulder after putting in a little local anaesthetic. You do feel the needle but it is just a little prick and doesn't last. I find the injection gives me relief for a couple of months or so. Hope you get on ok. LavendarLady x

Hi Phillip, I had a car accident about 2 yr ago and still suffering. I had a whole body flare immediately after.

If your having widespread pain ask about a general Kenalog injection, it's basically a shot in the butt and works it's way throughout the body giving widespread pain relief.

I have this every 3mth and without it I think I'd have given up completely as the whole body pain due to enthesitis is becoming more and more depressing.

Good luck, hope whichever way you have it it does the trick.

Thank you Beth, Im hurting so bad at the moment and with the cold weather blowing through my bones certainly does not help, I just put another Morphine patch on to try and ease the pain, fingers crossed lol but ill keep smiling through as we try to do .

i have had them in shoulders and knees, there not to bad and pain relief last quit a long time (months) , if my shoulder gets unbearable i just ring the hospital and they inject it that week, there is two places they inject me, one in the front the other in the back of the shoulder its no more painful than a blood test. When they drain my knees and inject steroids the drain is painful, good luck don't worry
