I have planter fasciitis too, I wear specially made night splints for bedtime, they force my foot to stretch so the pain after resting that pf brings is nowhere near we bad.

However I've also got metersaragiala at the moment too and my ankles and toes are flared badly so any movement is extremely painful, but I recommend the splints for pf my mum has pf too and uses splints also you can buy them on eBay or get them from your podiatrist, good luck walking x

Going to podiatrist at end of may so will defo ask them about night splints, thanks very much , do u ever put Brufen gel on, been trying that, helps a little but have you tried anything like that? Physio showed me morning stretches for feet but just overly painful for the relief it gives me?

Might gel inserts help? x

I did try one, they were good in open sandals but a bit tight in fitted shoes, but great idea, sure there will be slimmer ones, think I might take some with me now on my trip, thanks!

All of the above plus a podiatrist told me to take a cold can of juice out the fridge and roll my foot over it. Stretches the foot gently & the cold helps with inflammation. I find it helps if I've been walking a bit xx

Forgot to say, I find rubbing a bit of ibuprofen gel into my heel before walking helps too xx

Good shoes with nice springy soles really help, and also NEVER going barefoot around the house. When I get a really bad crampy feeling, I have discovered it relieves by stretching my foot (toes pointing upwards). I'm not sure about night splints - I always got told that very gentle stretching was better for this kind of thing than resting it totally. Alternating ice and heat can help too.

Didn't know about not going barefoot, now that is something I do all the time having a bit of hippie in me!

Hi Allanah,

I started with PMR nearly three years ago then graduated to RA. Last year I developed Plantar Fasc. Medico said buy some gel inserts from medical supplies shop. I bought some 'Made in Germany' but cannot remember the makers name. Man in the shop said that he had had it as well and found that rolling the foot over a tennis ball massaged it well. Also used an ice pack ( packet of frozen peas ). Eventually it went. I don't know which of the treatments helped, but something worked. Good luck.

I had PF for about a year, then my doctor suggested I go to Alexanda sports in portmsouth. I didnt go for a while as couldnt see how a sports shop could help me. In the end I got so desperate I went. They are a specialist shop and look into the movement of the foot, watch you walk and help sportspeople etc. anyway long story short, I brought some super stability asics trainers, cost me £105, best money I ever spent, they are so supportive and really help me walk properly, ie heel , then toe, I hadnt realised how much I was shuffling.

PF disappeared soonish after I brought them

Hi,

I got heel pads from the hospital for my plantar f.- i get two sets at a time and have one in my slippers and one in outdoor shoes- the consultant in ortho or ra can prescribe. They are more effective than the ones in the shops. I definitely know if i haven't used them.

I have found that it has to be good sprigy foot wear.I never ever go barefoot not even th the loo in the middle of the night.FIT FLOPS without a toe bar work wonders.Ones with a toe bar set my big toes off in great pain.I have feet like a duck they are big wide splodges so painful and ugley I couldn't walk without my Fit Flops (not regular fit flops). They arent the prettiest of shoes but the cushioned soles really do work to relieve pain.

Crocs diabetic range can also be good again theyre ugly mugs.Have a look on their website,

Hi Allanh, i suffered terribly with pf and back in march i had a procdure called dry needling......you can google or youtube it.....not for the squeamish, but it has worked wonders for me, i too couldnt walk barefoot, and swore by my fitflop shoes......i still have ongoing foot trouble, previous injury and RA aggravated.....but mayb something to consider ...hope you get suome respite soon, it is a very painful and disabling condition, one us RA sufferers can do without on top of every thing else..x
