Worked well for me for quite a while, and apparently is a commonly used mix. Eventually I had to add sulpha as well, and that's also fine. Hydroxy seems to be quite well tolerated by a lot of people. Polly
Thanks Polly. Sulpha is a no no for me due to the size of the pills. I'm really hoping this works.
It got rid of residual swelling in my hand that mtx didn't shift. It's supposed to help with fatigue too, but hasn't fixed that for me. Takes ages to work though.
Good luck,
Dotty xx
you can get SSZ as a liquid if you really can't take the pills. Its what they use for children I think.
I was on hydroxychloroquine for several years with good control of the inflammation.
Unfortunately it didn't last. After a flare up, i was changed to MTX and a couple of years later hydroxychloroquine was added in - the body decided to have an immediate allergic reaction. Pity, as I found it the least likely to cause side effects of all the DMARDs I've been on.
I started on Hydroxy & then Sulphazalazine was addes, I've now just started MTX at a low dose & slowly increasing it - all rheumy's seem to do things different!
I've been on it for a couple of years now. It does help with swelling but hasn't stop my flare ups or the frequency. If anything they've increased, hence I'm seeing my gp next week about this. Xx
