Interesting. Cold sores are part of the chicken pox / shingles virus. I have had 30 doses of Rituximab (Rituxin) over the 8 years and never had cold sores but during that time I did have 2 outbreaks of shingles.

Grandma34, if your oncologist confirms that the cold sores are definitely a side effect of your chemo, please let us know.

My dentist prescribed a pill for cold sores. If I feel one coming on I take it and the core sore doesn't develop. Call your dentist.

I am currently on Ritux maintenance and have had 2 bouts of shingles. Once on my face and once around the rib cage to the spine. After 3 months of the later one I am still experiencing severe nerve pain in my back.

Hi

During chemo I developed shingles and was prescribed Aciclovir and the shingles disappeared. Since that time I have continued to take it every day.

Apparently the shingles virus is the same one that produces cold sores etc...So I'm told by a Doctor...Maybe it is worth asking about it with your consultant/doctor.

Best Wishes
