PD Dialysis Fluid Bags

I have some fluid overload and need to use the green or red bag. I am not sure whether I should use either 1x yellow (1.25%) and 1 x green (2.3%) or 2 x greens, or 1 green and 1 red?

Please advise if you know.

Thanks.

This is very specific to you, so I would advise that you discuss this with your PD nurses, and agree your regime with them. Each regime is specific to the individual.

Your PD nurse should advise as mine did. I had fluid on my ankles on a regime of 3x5 L yellow and 6 exchanges. She increased my fill amount from 2000 to 2300 and substituted one 5L green bag for one of the yellow ones with a remarkable effect on my fluid levels and the results from my blood tests. She also instituted a last fill from an Extraneil bag connected to the blue prong on the cassette of 1200 mils.

It is what the visiting PD nurse is supposed to do.

Hi, it really depends on how confident you are, I used to change mine all the time to suit my fluid levels.

Others have said see your nurse, so, I won't bother with that, personally, I would swap one yellow for a green. See how that works, it's better to just change one at a time to prevent large fluid volume changes, which can result in cramps, and long term are not good for you.

Check your blood pressure too, as you could end up a bit low, this will make you feel dizzy when you stand up.

I have been on PD for 5 years and my regime of 3 yellow bags was leaving me with fluid in my ankles and poor blood test results.

After discussion with the visiting PD nurse we upped the fill from 2000mil to 2300mil per cycle, substituted one yellow bag for a green one and added a last fill of 1200mil Extraneil from a 2L bag.

This put up my UF from around 300 to 800 and increased my initial drain to around 200 mil positive.

My water on the ankles problem has totally gone, my blood test results are good and even my itchy skin has disappeared.

I was on a lot of blood pressure tablets but these have been cut right down because my BP fell significantly but as someone else has commented I can feel a little dizzy when I first wake up, but it passes quickly.
