Hi Boxing,

I was transplanted on Sept 23rd 1981. The same kidney is still going strong, 43 and a half years later.

When i got to 40 years in 2021, i asked UK Transplant how many were at 40 years and they said about 100.

Hope that’s of use.

Chris

Wow I can’t believe it’s lasted that long I hope it continues! How old was you when transplanted and age of donor if you don’t mind me asking?

Wow! 45 years I’ve never heard a kidney transplant last that long. Has the Dr said why yours has lasted that long anything unique?

Wow! How old was the donor? My potential donor is 58 and I’m 35 I hope the age don’t play a factor in length of time of kidney

My donor was 56 at the time she donated. From what I have researched, it is more about the quality of the donor kidney and how you take care of it.

In my opinion, that is why a living donor kidney can last longer because you can thoroughly test the living donor. You often don’t know everything about a deceased donor. Just my opinion from the research that I have done.

Hi Boxing - My first transplant (mom's kidney) lasted 28 years. I was just transplanted again this past December with a friend's kidney--so far it has lasted four months 😊.

Wow 28 years is quite long! How old was you when you had your first transplant and the donor? I am 35 and my potential donor is 58 wondering if age of donor affects longevity of the kidney.. thanks!
