I am still on the transplant wait list. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what kind of cough syrup I can take. I have a Dickens of a cough that's driving me nuts. Thanks so much!

Cough medicine
Just curious, are you on dialysis? I ask because I too have this ridiculous dry cough. I thought it was from spring allergies, but I have never had an issue before. Now it is summer and the cough is still there. You should ask the doc what type of medicine is ok for you. I take one that is just for a cough not congestion.
Hi, Yes, I'm on dialysis, peritoneal dialysis nightly for like 10 hours. I have a waitlist Clinic coming up, but I didn't want to wait till then. Pharmacist didn't really want to tell me anything in particular. He did say to find out if I could take anything with DM in it. This is a residual cough that I have from having an upper respiratory cold.
Hey, thanks for your answer. I hope you get over your cough soon!
Don't hesitate to think it could be (1) your blood pressure medication or (2) silent reflux, a acid reflux problem when the acid goes past the esophagus and into the voice box area causing excess coughing and post nasal drip. Doctors were plying me with all kinds of cough and cold medications when prilosec eventually solved the problem.
The acid reflux is a long shot explanation, but it worked for me after suffering for years. Good luck
I agree with everyone that a conversation with your doctor is in order. When my hubby was on dialysis, he could take most meds but usually at half the adult strength...it had something to do with how dialysis couldn't remove those meds very well from his system making them toxic over time. My hubby was also on PD.
