I’m still on Imuran (Azathioprine) after 22 years so I’m curious.

What was the reason given?

Did it get replaced with anything else?

you may consider reducing the dosage or replacing with another immuno drug

I didn’t take imuran. I’ve always maintained Cell Cept, Prograf and Prednisone. I had 2 rejections in 1996 so they wouldn’t let me change. The same goes for my 8/2024 transplant.

When I frist got my kidney they put me on cellcept. Five years later I got really sick it caused toxic biles they took me off of it and put me on imuran I was going in to rejection

I received my Transplant almost 36 years ago and was taken off Imuran about 10 years ago due to the fact that it was causing skin cancers. My dermatologist and my nephrotologist have been working together to try to find a solution to why I am constantly getting skin cancers and having to have over 300 MOHS surgeries. They know that because all of the immunosuppressive drugs I have taken in the past that it is a big factor.

It really gives hope knowing you have had your kidney 36 years. I’m sorry you have had so many mohs surgeries. Every time I go to the dermatologist they freeze about 10to15 places off I am hoping scent i quite the imuran they want be so many. Did they put you on anything else.
