I had the pleasure of attending an international autism Congress in Scotland several years ago. Of course the autism Congress was exceptional; I learned so much and met autism leaders from throughout the world. I’ve continued to work with many of them over the years since.

I stayed 4 extra days at my own expense to visit the highlands. I also wanted to do some research on the MacNab clan. Some of my relatives are descendants of that clan.

I really enjoyed the time I spent in Scotland and had hoped to go back after I retire this coming summer. Of interest, the MacNabs who immigrated to the United States settled in upper state New York in the middle of the Adirondack mountains. It is still a very remote and sparsely populated region. When the MacNabs settled there it was a wilderness. They were some of the first settlers in that region. The mountains and lakes in that region bare a striking resemblance to some portions of the Scottish highlands. Having seen the highlands, I can understand why the MacNabs would have been drawn to settle there. Well, I digress…

Hopefully I’ll be healthy enough to visit Scotland again within the next few years.

I see the hematology oncologist this Fri. I’m hoping for some good news from him. His nurse shared basic information about the type of leukemia I’ve got. There’s a good chance that it progresses very slowly but I won’t know for sure until the oncologist confirms this. It may require some additional testing.

On a more positive note, I’ve had 6 consecutive weeks of CMV data reported as “not detected” following two consecutive weeks with it slightly higher but in target range of <35. So two months with CMV where they want it without treatment. This is happening with very high lymphocytes and very low neutrophils. These two types of WBCs as well as my anemia are most likely impacted by the leukemia. However, even with both out of range, the CMV is finally settling down. I’m hoping this will continue as the oncologist addresses my leukemia.

This is beyond beautiful. And so touching. I just returned home tonight from our local hospital, my hubby has just be sent to a larger hospital to be treated for a-fib -and hoping there's nothing else. I had a hard time holding back tears. So many thoughts like, "Oh well, here we go again! Happy New Year to us!" But it's still the old year here at the moment. And I truly hope that the new year will be good to all of us - patients and caregivers. I will put that in my resolutions for sure. Jayhawker, you're always on my mind in my prayers too. As another kidney patient often said in his poetry: Your life matters. You are beautiful. You are worthy. You are not alone. We are blessed. We are stronger together. Warrior up and march on. (Chris Hassel) We will look forward to 2024 and own it!

Oh, so sorry to hear about your hubby. It had to be hard returning home as he was transferred to a larger hospital. You are such a strong source of support for him! Tomorrow is a new day in a new year. Positive thoughts as you move forward.

This arrangement of Fight Song is one I enjoy. The video is relaxing for me. When I’m feeling overwhelmed by my medical stuff I make time to watch this video and and calm myself.
