I received a transplant almost 3 months ago. I have been doing some work over the past 5 years of dialysis but I'm preparing for the future when the SSDI goes away. I will need to bring more money in for the family and eventually will need to get medical insurance after Medicare is done. Has anyone used any resources to receives job training? I've looked at the ticket to work program and so far I've only been able to find things geared towards helping people with a physical or mental disability get a job. Any advice would be appreciated.

Job training assistance
Hi Kbryii! Congratulations on the new kidney! Since you're interested in training and/or a new career, you might want to check out Career OneStop. Career OneStop, a federal program operated nationwide, offers job training programs at little or no cost to you as well as job opportunities. I've often visited One Stop centers in the mid-Atlantic region and they have great resources and are well staffed and well run. Here's a website that explains what they do. careeronestop.org/ If you're interested in the trades, companies involved in those occupations (electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, etc.) are often willing to hire at entry level and provide "apprenticeships" towards your licensure as well. And you'll want to consider the community colleges as well. They often offer great career paths (including to IT jobs, paralegal jobs, finance jobs, etc. ) while offering scholarships and tuition assistance too. Often, the community colleges host a Career OneStop office on site. Community colleges are also very knowledgeable about apprenticeships - providing courses and company apprenticeships. So do a little looking around and you'll probably find something that fits into your plans and interests. I suspect a wonderful, exciting future lies ahead of you!
Congrats! I got my transplant in May (7 1/2 months ago).
You didn't say where you live, or if you have any educational background. If you live in California, the state of California is hiring like crazy. A lot of employees are retiring and new environmental and "equity" related positions have opened up. Check out calhr.ca.gov. Some jobs are 100% telework and many are part time telework, like mine - 2 days/wk in office and 3 at home. Pre COVID you had to live in CA, but I am not sure if that is still true. I think the state of Cali currently starts health insurance 90 days after you start with the state. Also, 10% of your check (pretax) goes toward your pension.
