Has anyone experienced an ammonia, chemical smell while taking anti-rejection meds? I'm taking Tacrolimus, Presidone and Cellcept. It's not constant but happens enough to be concerned.Tks

I also take tacro, prednisone and cellcept. I too have a "chemical" smell sometimes. I haven't had anyone else say this, I was afraid it was just me. I'm interested in what anyone else has to say.

Yes, initially I thought it was just me as well. But it became so constant I thought I should ask this group. Tks for responding.

I’m a little over 2 yrs post transplant and I get the ammonia smell after working out. Thats the only time it happens though. My kidney is functioning properly and my blood work is fine. I’m on the same meds you are.

I have been on all 3 for 4 months and have not experienced this smell. My husband would definitely have said something since he notices any chemical smell right away. Found this article and thought some of it could be applicable: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

I am 2 1/2 years transplanted as with Sailor78edward. The smell just started to happen the last two months. I think it would take much longer than four months for this to occur; however it might also depend on the person. Thanks for the article, although it seems that taste is at the top of the list.

I am a year and 2months in I have had it every since the stint was removed the doctors and nephrologist says it’s normal for some people on those meds so I just deal with it

I'm glad to hear "it's normal ". My Transplant Team nor my local Nephrologist never mentioned this. Yes, I'm certainly dealing with it, no other choice. Just glad to hear other responses. Tks

they didn’t originally tell me until I start asking questions because it was so strong it’s not nearly as bad as it was but it’s still there
