Got The Call...A No Go

I got the call....a liver and kidney with my blood type O were coming available that evening due to a catastrophic brain bleed in a dear younger man in his 40's. I was told to be at the hospital in 2 hours! A flood of various emotions as you can imagine. I then received another call that after running some more in depth blood markers (virtually) the surgeon discovered that the liver would have been fine for me but the kidney had a 50% chance of failure in 10 years. The surgeon felt that this organ was too compromised for me, thus back to the waiting game. I would appreciate feedback on false alarm calls? Although I am extremely grateful to have received a call at all!

Hi BeachLove. I am so sorry about your experience. It is so disappointing when you gat the call and get so excited to only have your hopes dashed. I think this happens to many people waiting for a transplant. Just remember that your having been called means you are next on the list so hopefully you will get another "call" soon. Let us know when you do so that we can feel happy for you!

🙂

In October 2018 I got the call for a kidney, went to the transplant center and was prepped for surgery when the surgeon discovered the kidney wasn't usable. I was brokenhearted. Luckily in Feb 2019 I got another call and that time all was good. I hope you get another call soon.

How dissapointing....I am surprised they wouldnt use a kidney with a chance of 10 years...My Nephologist told me a Kidney Transplant life span was 7 to 10 years..and then would probably need another one.

But it is always the Surgeons call...there were probably other information that made his decision that we dont know
