Creatinine 1.8 after transplant

Hello,

I am scheduled for surgery with my aunt as a donor in 2 weeks . So I am excited for this but I have been concerned about one thing . The doctors told me my aunt is petite when compared to me so my baseline creatinine might be around 1.8 after transplant . I want to know if that’s okay and if people here have had this experience and had the transplant for many years ? Just want to know because it seems a little high and so that I can do whatever it is that helps me keep the transplant for as long as possible . The doctors told me as long as it’s stable it fine and no need to worry . Any inputs would be helpful. Thanks .

It is just an estimate, you never know how well it will wrok. GFR of 1.8 is perfectly adequate and will give you the quality of life that you wouldn't have on dialysis. You are also very lucky to have a relative willing to donate to you. Good luck!

Yeah they also said we never know until we do it but that it’s their responsibility to inform me that there is a good possibility that it might be a little on the higher side. So I am okay even if it is 1.8 but I just wanted to make sure that it does not go down too since it’s already starting at that point. I am only 29 so I would like to have a piece of mind and I want this to be a new leash in my life and want to live my life again. Thanks for responding quickly . Really appreciate it .

I think the doctors are just being cautious. I think they just don't want you to be shocked if your creatinine is a little on the high side.Best of luck to you!! Prayers coming your way!

Hello,Thank you for letting me know. You are probably right . They said it’s their responsibility to inform me that chances of it being on higher side is more but it’s nothing to worry about and that I would be alright if it remains stable . Hoping even if it’s on the higher side it will be remain stable for a long time and that I can live my life again.

From a living donor you should do great. Everyone after a transplant has different values for their creatinine. I just have been very blessed because mine is usually 0.9Take care!

The team has a formula to estimate end-result creatinine based on body weights, kidney size and its estimated filtration rate and other factors. I was told my donor's (deceased) kidney will work out to be at best a creatinine of 1.4 in me. BUT, mine has been a stable 1.1-1.25. So do not worry, estimate is just that, an estimate. Work closely with the team and enjoy this exciting journey!

Many congratulation on your successful transplant.

I been through the same process 14 months ago and my initial creatinine level was also the same in first month.

However within 2 months time it was near 1.1 and now days below 1.

So please don't worry about the initial reports as the acceptance your foreign organ improves the reports will get better as well

Its fine and you'll do well. The best I ever was, was 1.6 and now it's been 9 years and it's been running between 1.8 and 2.1 generally around 1.8 sometimes I see 1.7 or high 1.6. My creatinine usually spikes once per year to like 2.3 and then goes back down. It works as long as you are good and take your kiddie cocktail (Meds about 15 of them) you'll be good. Just do what they tell you and don't change your meds unless they tell you and it will work great. Have your blood work done monthly and know your numbers. Then you will be great.

I'll echo the previous comments - mine has ranged from 1.2 to 1.8 since my transplant 11 years ago. My doctor has told me that creatinine varies after transplant - for me it's often a function of fluid consumption prior to the test.
