I'm just passing 6 months post transplant and I've had hot flashes and issues with profusely sweating since the beginning. I know that prednisone is one cause of this, but otherwise I just deal with it and shower daily/wipe off my skin where I have sweat built up. It's pretty annoying...I'm sorry that you're dealing with this!
Hi congratulations on your transplant. I am now 16 months post transplant and I suffer with exactly the same issue. First off are you diabetic if so keep a very close eye on your sugar levels. But if not I know it is an embarrassing situation at times. Imagine thick snow on the ground and I was stripping off walking down the street, I was accused of being a drug addict and many other things. I still have no answer to why it started but I take a medication called Propantheline bromide 30mg. It’s used for a condition called Hyperhydrosis which means excessive sweating but there can be underlying causes so please get yourself checked out properly. I am here if you ever need to talk, just keep that chin up and enjoy life as much as possible. X
Make sure you tell your transplant center regarding the excessive sweating. Sometimes they can adjust your immunosuppressants and it could help.
Congratulations. I have had the problem since before and am not 4 yrs post, but still had a few overheating issues, mostly when trying to sleep, I would not say hot flashes as I did not sweat, but got too warm to stay asleep. My Primary care Dr prescribed gabapentin which i cleared with my transplant team, and so far it has been successful. My transplant team advised they prescribed gabapentin frequently but more so for diabetic neuropathy than anything else. Best of luck!
Hi
I too suffer from these bouts of sweating to the point my hair gets wet. I was told it could be high sugar but nothing was prescribed. If I am grocery shopping I would open the freezer just to cool off.
Are you taking tacrolimus? This could be the cause. My hot flushes hit me like a fist and I get so hot it feels like my brain is catching on fire. Within 20 minutes my hair is wet and I am covered in little salt crystals. I have just switched to cyclocporin to see if that helps. Keep after your Dr. Sometimes they are hard to convince.
Hello, my husband had his transplant 7 mos ago and never had this severe sweating issue. I noticed you did not have any responses and wanted you to hear from someone either way. Please ask your transplant team. I am thinking medications you are on, one or more of them has this as a side effect. I wish you some answers soon. I know women going through menopause sweat a lot and there are clothes to help with this issue.
Thank to "all" of you for responding re my excessive sweating bouts. I wonder if anyone has or have had the CMV (virus.) ? I had an episode a few months ago. I was put on Valcyte which cured it. A few weeks ago it was "detected" again. Because the numbers were so low my doctor dismissed it. However I continue with fatigue, lightheadedness and the excessive sweating bouts.
Today the doctor said she would do more testing and refer me to an infectious disease physician.
Any thoughts?
Hi there, I was on valcyte too immediately after transplant for six months. I was off it for 2 months it came back and I continued with dosage for one month more. Now it's gone and hopefully won't come back. (I've been off valcyte for 3 months now) My doctor says cmv could reoccurr once you're taken off it, especially if you're not taking it for a long period. But obviously everyone is different. Could the other symptoms you're experiencing not be caused by other meds you're taking? Perhaps? I wish you all the best and hope it is nothing serious.
I have had a run of that as well as BKE virus. I am non-months post transplant for kidney and pancreas. I have had issues with overheating and sweating since I was transplanted. Not sure if it has something to do with hormone levels after surgery or what is going on working on figuring it out I don’t think it has anything to do with your cmv
Thank you Kidney 3
Same issue but it occurs with any physical exertion with sweating beyond normal perspiration. Shirt, hat etc., soaks through, hat gets drenched with sweat. Activities such as hiking, minor carpentry, washing car cause excessive sweating. I should clarify that my heart level of fatigue is normal
