I was told yesterday that I need to prepare for dialysis. My doctor of 5 years passed away last week and I'm now seeing another doctor in her group. I am feeling down because she was doing everything possible to prevent me from going on dialysis as she knew that I have a donor. The problem with that is they have yet to schedule him for testing. I don't understand why it takes so long to schedule potential donors. This is the second time this has happened. I don't know where to go from here as the present Transplant Coordinator has not been very helpful in the past.
Any one have any suggestions and also comments on dialysis. I'm scared and grieving my doctor.

I am so sorry to hear about your doctor passing away and your need to dialysis. Are you active on the transplant list? If so, your donor should call to start the evaluation for you asap. You can also try listing at another hospital, but that would require you to do much (if not all) of the testing again. Here is a link to find other transplant centers in your area: kidney.org/atoz/content/how...
I've been on dialysis for a year now and I know its scary and something you don't really want to do but it's not that bad. I go for 3 hours every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. And it actually has become my peace and I sometime be looking forward to going. The techs and nurses are really nice and helpful. Little tip: bring warm blankets it get really cold in there. bring a lil snack and your phone or ipad. Just relax and you'll be fine.
