I am a 71 year old male, who has been waiting for kidney transplantation since 2013. I am looking for a live kidney donor.
KIDNEY TRANSPLANTATION: I am a 71 year old... - Kidney Transplant
KIDNEY TRANSPLANTATION
I was n the list for ten years and just got one 3 months ago. I’m 62 and had no friends or family who could donate and I really didn’t worry about it. There are matching programs you can Check into if you must really have a live donor.
Hang in there!!!
Don't be set on a living donor. I had a transplant 18 years ago from a 16 year old killed in an auto accident - cadaver donor. It was a 4 out of 6 possible match. My kidney function continues to be fantastic!
There are some great tips for finding a living donor here: kidney.org/transplantation/...
Follow Kelli’s post and make it a job to find a Donor. At our age (I’m 68), the UNOS scoring system makes the odds of “getting the call” a pretty long shot. After having 10 people tested and rejected, I found a friend who I had not seen in 12years to give me the gift of life! I had my 6 month post transplant clinic, today. I’m feeling great! The NKF is a great Living Donor resource as is the American Transplant Foundation. The ATF can team you with a Peer who has gone through this process as a recipient or Donor.
Hi! I recently created a list of ideas to proactively seek a living donor for another member of this community (the following link will connect you to it):

You should take a look. Maybe one idea (or maybe more!) will seem doable for you to try. As a matter of fact, I just saw a news report about a man that wore a shirt with his information on it and through that “out-of-the-box” method, he was able to find a living donor! insideedition.com/media/vid...
I wish you lots of luck and prayers in your search! And have faith that it will happen.
Be well!
Hi, Recently the NKF rolled out a brand new program called "The Big Ask, The Big Give" . I think it would be a good idea for you to give a call to the NKF Cares hotline and ask them if this presentation is slated to be delivered/presented local to where you are. It is a wonderful resource where you can learn how to advocate for yourself and provides you with many idea's and suggestions that will help you find that donor you are desperately seeking. I actually helped in the creation of this program as I did find my son his living non-related donor. Its a process but one well worth while when you consider the change it will bring to your life.
