I'm overwhelmed. Just got call from my transplant center about the offering of a cadaver kidney. Person was 65-70 yrs old, kdi 79%, no history of diabetes or high bp or any other issues. I don't know whether to accept or reject? Average life of this kidney is 8-10 yrs. I am 71. Any thoughts???

Thank you. I declined the offer (I was a backup), because my living donor is being tested today & test results won't be in until next week. I had to make the choice!

I personally don’t see anything wrong. Why not take this Kidney? It could be years before your offered again and it’ll be passed the age limit . I say go for it!

Thank you! I declined because my living donor is being tested today & won't know results until next week. I was a backup, so hopefully there is a recipient for the cadaver kidney. My donor is young, healthy & otherwise fit; so, I don't expect any problems.

I had my transplant in 1999 from a deceased donor. I am 19 years post transplant and living well. I would jump at the chance.

Hi, just wanted to share a little of my journey. My friend donated a kidney to me 9 years but I lost that precious gift to the BK virus less that 3 years later and immediately went on dialysis (not on dialysis before transplant). My body rebelled, sick to my stomach, migraine headache each treatment, lost 23 pounds in 2 months. My healthy, young son got tested for me but a solid mass found on one of his kidneys (thankful he got tested so it could be discovered) so not able to donate. Was advised that with no living donors and most common blood type wait period on transplant list 7 to 8 years. Received perfect match healthy elderly cadaver kidney 3 years after starting dialysis. It has been 4 years now and I am healthy and thankful. If you're offered a healthy older cadaver kidney, accept it because you just never know what twists and turns life will bring. Best of luck to you.

It is a tough and admittedly emotional decision. Certainly a kidney that is being offered to you must have been evaluated by the doctors to make sure it is healthy enough and that you were a match to get it. This could be the life changing event you have been waiting for. Keep me posted on what you decide and good luck. Prayers to you for making the decision.

The thing about Cadaver kidneys.

Is the kidney has had a chance to fight disease.

A young kidney hasent .

I would take for sure good luck .
