Kidney stone

I am 3 and a half years post transplant. I have PKD. I had pain and had an ultra sound. I was told I have a small stone in my transplanted kidney. I do not eat anything that causes it, but I recently read Stevia does, and that is in my protein drink. I am stopping it. The pain did not come from the transplanted kidney but they did the ultra sound on it anyway, and found it. I know exactly what to eat and what not to. Has anyone been told they have a stone in their transplanted kidney? Not happy.

Yes, I have also been told I have a stone in my transplanted kidney. Im 2 yrs post and the new one is failing so to get back on list I had to have ultrasound and thats when my GP told me there was a stone noticed in the kidney. I also follow a diet that should not cause stones and have never had one before in original kidneys.

Dear 0325,

Yes your Kidney Stone could, have developed AFTER your Transplant, however a small stone could have- just as easily- been present PRIOR to your Transplant. Suppose a Kidney comes up, for Transplantation, it seems 'Viable' Healthy and a Good Match for the recipient. Two years 'Down The Line' a small stone is found.....Do you see what I'm driving at.

Yes, I'll admit, it IS more likely that this Stone formed after Transplantation- with this Supplement being a possible cause, I don't personally 'know' Stevia myself. Can I ask, did you get Stones, or 'Gravel', in you own Kidneys? Is so was any reason given? It might be worth your while, asking your Consultants/ Doctors, about this.

It did develop after. I don't see what you are driving at? I already spoke with my donor, and there was never a stone, or any in her family. If there was a stone prior with my donor, my hospital would not have transplanted it. They are very strict. I never had stones or gravels in my own kidneys. Thanks so much. I research everything.

Kidney stones can happen to anyone. My husband is 5 years out and one night woke up with severe pain. Admitted to the hospital and had blood in his urine. Had a stone, more like gravel in his transplanted kidney and the native kidney. Fluids cleared it up. One thing that can contribute is too much Vitamin C. He had a cold and took way too much. Hope you get to the root cause. Prayers for you.

Hi marcyc I am so sorry to hear this about your husband. You mean IV fluids in the hospital? I drink enough water, that is for sure. Yes, I heard about too much vitamin C. I hardly ever have that. For now they just want to watch it every 3-6 months, and I am scared, because my creatinine is out of range. It isn't horrible, but not good. I heard that if you drink lemon juice, it helps. Who knows? I am living alone, and scared. Thanks so much for your prayers. I hope your husband continues to be well.

Yes he got IV fluids that time but yes drinks all his necessary fluid at home. If you don’t have diabetes, pure cranberry juice can help with stones. His creat runs 1.5 to 2.0 but the docs are happy with that. I understand that fear, you don’t want to lose that kidney but you need to live your life as well.

Wow he is lucky all he needed was IV fluids. I don't have diabetes, but I have to watch my potassium, so that is out. His creatinine is out of range also from the chart I have, but if the doctors are happy about it, then that is good. I am very weak from low blood pressure, so some days it is hard to live my life, but I do. Thanks again for your support.

Hello again marcyc, Just wanted to tell you I read up on the cranberry juice. Glad I did. It is NOT good for stones. It is good for infections, but not for a stone. Just wanted to let you know, in case your husband might try it.
