Has any kidney donors had issues with hives, mouth sores, dizziness or heart racing after surgery? Went to many doctors nobody can seem to help.

Hello. Thank you for your donation to save a life!! I personally did not have any of those side effects, however, you are on the right track to check with specialists. Just wondering how long post-op did these surface - immediately or shortly thereafter?

Wishing you the best of luck with answers.

thank you for getting back to me. I had the surgery on December 9th of 2020 and had a rough time with heart palpatations, not sleeping , then all of this started on February 22nd and has been ongoing since. I saw a dermatologist, allergist, dentist regular doctor and nobody has had an answer. I just started going to a naturalist recently and it seems like we have the hives at bay with a natural antihistamine and started acupuncture which seems to be helping. I am praying that I am finally turning the corner. How long was your recovery and when did you have the surgery?

Well I'm glad SOMETHING/SOMEONE is starting to help you! That's NOT what's supposed to happen post donation! My surgery was 2-12-2007...by about 6 weeks post op, I was just about back to myself, just like with any other abdominal laparoscopic surgery, including cleared to drive (other donors drive much sooner). I would say that after 2 weeks, I was feeling much much better, by 4 weeks I felt really good.

Wishing you NO MORE ISSUES!

I really wish that was my case. I am so happy that you are doing well. I am hoping that all of this is happening at once and things will go back to normal. Thank you again.

You should be checked for adrenal insufficiency. The adrenal glands are attached to the upper pole of each kidney. The goal is to preserve theses glands during the nephrectomy. Even if gland is removed, you should have another on the other kidney. Even though it would be an unusual complication, your symptoms are unusual and this should be checked out. Best of luck.

I’m guessing that may be your issue. Unfortunate but treatable.

Have you ever heard of anybody having that before? I'm a little nervous because it doesn't look like there is a treatment for that.

Not what you're looking for?
