My son was scheduled to donate kidney to my wife and NYU just cancelled. Does anyone know of any hospitals in country still performing living donor transplants?

I checked with UCLA where I'm supposed to give a kidney to my brother in May, and my Coordinator said let's just get all the testing done and see where we're at, at that time. I'm surprised NYU cancelled the surgery, except that NY is really running out of beds for the infected folks. Hang in there!

Just hang in there! With the anti-rejection drugs after the surgery, your wife would be a super high risk! They consider the surgery elective, so you should probably just wait. I know waiting is terrible! I did it then switched centers to stop waiting! My mom is still trying to get her anti rejection meds right, and was hospitalized for all last week with a UTI. It was scary! She has such a compromised immune system now! They tested her before they sent her home for the coronavirus, and she was negative (huge sigh of relief), but it was nerve racking to just have her in the hospital! Have faith! If you think your wife won’t make it to wait, call centers around the country! You will never know if you do not ask!

St Joseph's in Phoenix is still doing transplants. I did my donation there. The team is fantastic and they move FAST. We have a spare room if you need a place to stay. Please don't hesitate to ask!

Team Roney - please know that you have this great health unlocked community behind you!!

We want you to have your transplant but understand if NYU cancelled it is for your and your son’s protection. I’m 100% sure that your transplant will be a tremendous success after the covid risk had been cleared from the hospital.

I donated to my husband in NY who is the recipient of two living donations and infection risk is so significant. it’s a challenge in the best of conditions until your team gets your meds right for you.

If you and your son want to talk during this extremely frustrating time, we would be happy to talk and help you pass this awful time.

We CAN imagine how very hard it is to accept this delay.
