I am considering donating a kidney, the intended recipient is in my family. I am almost 50, generally healthy, and dont have any issues while getting insurance on the health exchange.
I have read that as things stand right now, I wont have any issues in the coming years. No insurer will consider my donation as a pre-existing issue and refuse to insure or raise my premium.
I have asked my current insurance provider, and they basically said - we wont pay for you to donate, and we dont need to know when the surgery happens nor do we need any reports from your surgeon/team.
However now, I am worried if a few years from today, there will be a change in the laws and I might have issues. Its still 15+ years for me to get on medicare, and I dont want to be priced out of healthcare.
Is anyone else also thinking this way? If so, what are you doing to address this worry?
If you are not worried, please tell me why you think its not a problem? How should I deal with this worry?
