PD filling

My husband has been on PD dialysis for 10 months. For the past month every time when he does the first fill he is having severe pain and burning. He isn't having any pain on the other 3 fillings and he doesn't having any pain on any of his draining's. I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this and what can we do to prevent this? His bowel movements are every day so I don't believe this could be causing his first filling.

Oh my. That's not good. My husband was on PD for almost a year and that didn't happen to him. He thinks your husband might have a constriction in the tubing somewhere that straightens out at the start of dialysis, or the setting on your cycler should be tweaked -switched to tidal (but one would think the pain then would have been there all along, or he has an infection. He thinks it's would be very wise to call his nephrologist/nurse. My husband's experience with PD was pain free like your husband's, so he doesn't like hearing this at all. His bowels were also regular.

Thank you. Praying it's not an infection. We will contact his Nephrologist.

Did your husband get a kidney transplant since he's not doing PD anymore?

Yes. He was exceptionally blessed - after exactly one year on dialysis, he received his gift at age 71. He agreed to take a higher risk decreased donor kidney. It has been performing well - he is now 3.5 post transplant. I am hopeful more possibilities will open up for everyone on dialysis.

Yes...I get that occasionally. .I think I get some inflammation and my perteneal is "dry"....I have found that if I set my cycler up early and let that Solution warm up or put it on a heating pad it soothes my belly

Does your cycler not have a warmer? We are using the Liberty model and it has a warmer on top for the first bag. I found that if I lay the second bag on top of this but a bit to the back of the first, both bags get warm.

You didn't say if you were on manual or the cycler. My husband had pain with manual and I found an article about trying to manipulate the internal connection around; leaned to the apposing side and then massaged his area. He is now on the cycler and has had no pain. I agree to talk with Dr/Nurses and ask about TD.

He uses the cycler. The last 2 nights he has little pain so hopefully things are better but we will tell his Nephrologist. Thank you. He started out on the TD but eventually he didn't need it.
