Stomach issues

I am a stage 4 kidney patient with GFR of 14. Recently got fistula. Have suddenly developed stomach issues with cramping bloating and gas. Has anyone else experienced this and what did you do about it. Is it related to the kidney disease or a whole new animal. Am trying not to involve my doctor as they always want to do a million invasive tests which I currently do not have the energy for.

Hate to tell you this but you are actually stage 5. The stomach issues may not be related to CKD, but not being a doctor, I wouldn't know. Go to the doctor!

Stomach issues do tend to come with CKD, so it's possible that's why you're having issues. I work in gastroenterology and there are tests that are less invasive that might be able to explain other possible underlying causes if you decide you want to look into it further.

Also, as others have stated a GGR of less than 15 is Stage 5 CKD.

Stomach issues could be related to CKD. I certainly have them. Famatodine can help. Fennel tea can help. Are you on a daily baby aspirin, I am certainly not suggesting you change this but you could discuss it with your doctor. I was on daily baby aspirin and after discussing with doctor he removed it and my almost constant stomach pain after eating stopped. Has since returned with deteriorating kidney function but much less frequent than before. Hoping you get relief.

What medications are you on? My Dad takes a lot of meds to medically manage his kidney disease, and his sodium bi-carb helps with stomach issues. He's 87, has a GFR of 8 and feels pretty good. I understand not wanting more doctors appointments, but some of these medications really do help keep symptoms at bay. (He also has a fistula ready to go should he decide to have dialysis.) Good luck!

i hear you. Every few years I develop new symptoms and signs, which necessitates the physician merry go round with tests, etc. so I hear you. And as someone else said here, with an eGFR of 14, you are in Stage 5 not 4. The stomach issues may or may not be related to CKD. I do not have any stomach issues and I am in Stage 5 with an eGFR of 10 since May this year. I do have Irritable Bowel Syndrome since 1986. For my issues of gas, cramping and bloating, I take benefiber daily and ProBiotics. You can try this and see what happens. If the issues continue or get worse do see your physician. As others said, what meds are you on? Medications have their own side affects. You can always look them up online. One reliable site is drugs.com I am not a physician, but I've been involved with the medical go round for over forty years. Wish you well.

Hi Oceanviewed, I agree with Bassetmommer please see a doctor and don’t assume it’s related to your CKD. I have recently suffered from extreme bloating, gas and pain in my stomach turned out I had a bout of colitis which needed immediate treatment as it made me feel extremely unwell. I hope you feel better soon.

Do you possibly have polycystic kidney disease? If so and there's one or both kidneys remaining in there they swell up

Sorry I hit the wrong button here. Yeah if there's other kidneys inside that have never been removed they may have swelled to a very large portion of my spouse has this problem one of them has been removed but the other one is gotten much larger than what a kidney should be due to the cysts on it it's almost the size of a small football. When that happens it has the habit of pushing a lot of other organs aside.
