So, my nephrologist just up and left. I'm sure there was more going on behind the scenes than I'm aware of, but it was so sudden for me. He was also the consulting MD at the dialysis clinic. I'm not worried about finding another nephro, though. The nephrology department I deal with is a crack team (no sarcasm, they really are pretty good), so I have few worries.
Here's the thing. My home hospital is part one chain of hospitals in the area (Aspirus). Now, I don't like my home hospital because there is very little they do, other than band-aids and referrals to one of their larger hospitals/clinics. I don't use this chain of hospitals for much of anything, although they were the ones helping me when I broke a vertebra last spring. They referred me to their main regional hospital, two hours down the road. The chain I work with (Essentia) has a hospital 40 minutes away, and the dialysis center (Fresenius) I deal with is right next door, but the nephrology department is 2 hours away. Usually, the consulting doctor and/or nephro staff come from that hospital chain.
Now, 45 minutes in a different direction, I can start with a DaVita center (that looks much cleaner), and deal with the Aspirus nephrology department, not only as consultants in the center, but in general. Now, dealing with new doctors and staff is a pain, but I'm considering it because I think I may see better communication between my doctors/clinicians. They would be coming from the same chain as my local hospital, so the circle would stay kinda smaller.
I'm looking for thoughts. I'm not in any hurry to switch over, but it's something I've been considering for a week or two. Many of you know my story, so I hoped that you would give me better advice than I might find on Reddit. LOL
