Overcoming Financial Hardships with Kidney Disease
This can be a problem. Since, I was diagnosed with kidney failure when I turned 16, I at least had time to plan. I lived with my father and stayed on his insurance as long as possible. I moved out because I wanted to be on my own. I used the free clinic for all my meds. Employment was a problem because I had to hide my transplant from my insurer and their insurance company. As time went on, I obtained a college degree that helped me get a job with insurance. I decided to marry for extra income and put it all out there for my future husband. We bought a house one person could afford to make the payment on if I couldn't work. Like now. I don't receive disability and we do the best we can. We have had pets throughout the years and negotiated cost based on my medical issues. I can negotiate down any cost. Most of our money goes to medical. As time goes by and I am now 59, I have dropped Doctors and some medications. My labs are better then they were from the above actions. It is very tough and if you haven't been through the financial side, things suck.
