How did you feel : Hi on Monday evening I... - Kidney Dialysis
How did you feel
I have been on peritoneal dialysis for several months now. After my first full night, I felt many times better than I did previously & it has continued to get better. No more 'brain fog', physically better all around. I am in my late 70s so know I won't get back to my active younger self just because of my age. But life is pretty good. I can take care of myself, drive, shop, garden, etc. Initially you will probably have some 'drain pain' if you are on PD. That can be dealt with by telling your PD team & they will adjust your fluids. It does get better with time. You may also experience leg & foot cramps, that also can be helped with your prescription adjustments Some nights you will sleep well, & others not, but you & your body will adjust & make accomodations. Not knowing your age &lifestyle, you will have to make some adjustments in your daily routine, as the machine & yourself will have to stick to a certain daily routine that will take extra time. There is still plenty of time to do other things however. Travel is possible, with planning. Wishing you well on your new journey! Be sure to talk/ask you dialysis team about anything at anytime! Read your handouts, listen to what they say, call them when in doubt about anything. They are there to help you.
Hi I am on Pd dialysis which gives me the ability to do dialysis at home. I have to say it is really nice. I did have hemo dialysis done as well and honestly it was fine except for the needling part. Everyone is different with needles but I hate them...lol. But honestly after a few times it didn’t really hurt that much. I do have a fistula which is a access point for them if they need to do hemo dialysis on me ever again. Ie Pd dialysis doesn’t work for some reason. Hope this helps. Blessings.
I am dealing with kidney failure for my second time and I have had both hemo and now on Pd dialysis and I have to say that they both have their positives and negatives. When I was on hemo dialysis one of the worst parts about it was getting the catheter inserted but afterwards it was what it was. If your a impatient person hemo dialysis will be a challenge since you really are unable to do too much except lay in bed. So get comfy with a good movie. Now Pd dialysis is much better because you can do it at home and have more freedom. Obviously there are drawbacks to both but each person is different. I do have a fistula in my left arm as a access point in case the Pd dialysis treatment ever goes haywire. Dialysis has truly evolved through the years cause I had Pd dialysis for around three yrs back in the late 80’s, and my goodness what a difference from then to now. I hope this helps and if you have any other questions. I also hope you are able to get a transplant when the time comes. Blessings.
I'm have been on hemo dialysis since April. The doctors and internet say you should feel better after dialysis and most people do. However I always feel like crap after and we can't find out why.
