Diagnosed with ESRD a out 9 years ago. I used do HD 3x week 4 hours 15 minutes. I cut back to 2 days. Now I feel alot better

I do dialysis for 5 or 6 months then quit for 1 to 1.5 years. My GFR starts at 8 and after a little while. It is 20 or morecreati ine voes from8 to 3. I maintain for 1 or more years. I have done this method fo nearly a decade. No one needs dialysis3x week. It sucks. Makes you so so sick and is painful. Nephrologist don't know squat. Time for me to quit dialysis. See everyone in about a year.

I strongly recommend you learn how to read and inter[ret your blood test results. Those, and not how you "feel" determine if you will be here a year from now. You were put on dialysis as a life sustaining measure, it wasn't n option.

Please don't assume "no one needs dialysis 3X week." This statement could not be more wrong. Some people like myself have had their diseased kidneys removed and rely solely on dialysis to stay alive. Do you know how the 3X/week came to be? They started out treating kidney failure patients with dialysis once per week, they all died. Then they increased to twice per week, they all died. Then they increased to 3 times per week and they didn't die. Thus the 3X per week was born as a "standard *minimum*" to stay alive. To expect 12 hours per week of dialysis to replace 168 hours of what kidneys do and feel well is ridiculous imho. Your labs and how you feel determine the need for dialysis. If you assume all nephrologists "don't know squat" then perhaps you need more education on the body and how it works. I suggest kidneyschool.org I hate to say goodbye to you. Likely you won't be here in a year if you choose to play russian roulette with dialysis. I sincerely hope you'll re-think your actions. Sit down with your team all together, the nephrologist, dietitian, social worker, nurse and have a good discussion about how you feel and the realities of lab values, dialysis, anemia and your lifestyle to get the best for living your life. Blessings

Wow! Wonderful news. I am not yet on dialysis. GFR 19, creatinine 3.0. Strict diet no added salt, no dairy, plant based, 90% vegan, I am 75, disease membranous neuropathy, asking lord to give me 5 more years without Dialysis.

Thank you for sharing your your experience. Gives me hope.

Wish you well and enjoy your dialysis free life for another 1 1/2 year. Happy for you. What is your age?

While I can't recommend you stop dialysis totally or go against your doctors, your situation reminds me a fellow patient at my clinic. I'll call him "Steve". Steve complained to the staff for a long time that the 3x treatment made him feel sick during and between treatments. He also cramped terribly during treatment. I know this cause his chair was next to mine and our "on time was 30 minutes apart. I know cause I watched him writhing in pain from his cramping. I've had cramping that severe too. So he started coming 2x a week. Some weeks he does 3x. He's still alive. Now I know nothing of his medical condition, history, labs etc. Of course, when he started 2x, he got the doom and gloom speeches about how he'd die etc etc. ESRD is a death sentence when they want it to be and not when they don't. You have the right to live or die. You have a right to choose. You have the right to ask questions and change doctors if you want. Don't let anyone take your rights away from you.
