That's a complicated question. I think it depends upon the cause of your CKD, your level of motivation and determination and what your nephrologist feels is possible for your future. Most of those with CKD who adhere to a strict vegan CKD (low protein) diet have found themselves lowering their risks for dialysis and increasing their GFR. But again there are so many contributing factors its not a clear cut dry yes or no answer. Do YOU feel you can improve your numbers? Blessings

What stage of kidney disease are you in? If you are in stages 1 - 3 you can improve your outcome by sticking to a low salt diet, drinking plenty of water and taking your high blood pressure meds. If you have PKD, there is now a medication called Tolvapten that can be taken in the early stages to slow down the growth of the kidney cysts that will eventually rob your kidney function. Check with your nephrologist to see what you can do for your specific situation. Good luck to you!

Depends on the cause of your CKD and the severity or Stage your'e in. Talk with you nephrologist and ask very specific questions. Research your condition on the web (Kidney foundation, mayo clinic etc). Learn everything you can. That will may you more informed and allow you to talk with your Dr.'s more clearly. Also consider getting a 2nd opinion. Dr.'s can make mistakes. You may see things for alternative type treatments (herbal etc.). I would approach those with caution put don't rule them out totally.
