The social worker at your son's dialysis center should be able to help with the finances. Also talk with your nephrologist office. People in the office are trained to help. Since starting dialysis he is eligible to be on Medicare too. If I remember correctly, you are eligible for Medicare when in ESRD for 3 years.

Has your son had an appt with your local transplant center? Is he on the transplant list?

The transplant center can also help you figure out the finances and all that is involved.

You're eligible for MEDICARE after 3 months on dialysis if you have the required work credits. Your son could possibly qualify under a parents work credits. If he has private insurance Medicare will remain secondary for 3 years then becomes primary. Talk to a nurse and request a meeting for you and your son with the clinic social worker. They are there to help in exactly these situations. You and HE must now learn to advocate for him and become proactive in his health and self manage well his care. Has he considered home dialysis? PD or home hemodialysis could give him more freedom and feel much better. I've been CKD 40 years. Dialysis almost 18 years. Ask to meet or referred for transplant evaluation. Transplants often help those feel like they have their lives back. I HIGHLY recommend going to kidneyschool.org It is free online educational modules about 30 minutes each which educate all about the processes of chronic kidney disease and failure. You don't say how old your son is. Does he go to school or work, independent, live at home, other health or mental issues? What makes him feel like a prisoner? Blessings
