Wanted to share with all my fellow CKD warriors: I've included both links for you to peruse at your leisure. One link leads to the other:

US Kidney Research Corp Advances Toward Implantable Artificial Kidney

Dear Feline, thanks you so much for the information. It is both fascinating and has the potential to be hugely transformative. If in the future, it becomes viable, not only will it increase the quality of life of thousands of people but save many lives. I want to follow all this closely. Peace, Aidan

That was so cool! I'd sign up to trial that tech.
There are other universities and companies working towards implantable or wearable dialysis devices. For example, the University of California at San Francisco is working on an implantable device the size of the coffee cup and has a prototype in hand. The nice thing is that often universities cooperate with other institutions and contract with companies in their research and development, thus avoiding mistakes and speeding things along. If support continues in this area, there potentially will be an unlimited supply for devices available for everyone, with no need for immunosuppressants. This would be fantastic. UCSF does offer one the chance to sign up for clinical trials when they become available, see #24 at this link: pharm.ucsf.edu/kidney/devic... . For an overview of the UCSF program, see pharm.ucsf.edu/kidney.
