Bun Level: Just wondering if anybody else... - Kidney Disease
Bun Level
We get urea measured which is different but related differencebetween.net/scien...
My mum's latest urea is 11.1 mmol/L which I think converts to 66.6 mg/dL. Whilst that's 60% over-range, it's been quite stable for several years and seems of no concern to her nephro.
She's stage 3.
As you probably know, normal BUN levels is 6-24. Your husband's level was probably flagged. When my hubby's BUN level was 114 and his creatine was 8, his life went upside down and he was placed on dialysis. BUN and creatinine was of immense interest (along with his blood pressure) at that time...frequent blood draws done daily, until the decision was made. As a spouse to another spouse, I'm very glad you're watching his labs. It's important to note the trends, so you can take steps to work with it to the extent possible. I was plunged into it unexpectedly. A nightmare experience. My husband, in denial, always insisted he was "fine" and didn't share anything with me. I now go to all his appointments, check his records, ask questions, etc. His doctors really appreciate seeing me there. He received a transplant at age 71, and is doing very well today. Simply know that much can be done for individuals with kidney disease, but keeping native organs functioning good is, of course, always best. Hugs!
