I don’t have a confirmed diagnosis yet but am due to have a biopsy following an appointment last week. Consultant said he thinks IgAN.
I’m very worried about it all. Efgr is around 40 and I’m so scared no medication will be offered. I don’t have diabetes or high blood pressure.
I’m also worried my child will get this too. My understanding is there is no way to test if they have it? The only thing you can do is get regular blood & urine tests to monitor
Does anyone at all have any positive stories?
Thanks

when you find out you have a kidney disease it is scarcy and we are scare for our kids . I don’t have the same disease but I have polycystic kidney that is an inherited disease which my mom and grandma had it and three of the four kids have it and six of seven of my mom siblings . The positive note is my daughter been tested she does not have it and my son is 46 and goes to sane family doctor and he watching him all his labs are good right where there are suppose to be for a 46 year old . And postive note sine my daughter was tested and does not have it my grandson won’t have it so the disease will finally stop in our family my son has no kids .
I understand your concern. We want the best for our children and we worry a lot when an autoimmune condition shows up in the family. (My son also has an autoimmune disorder - crippling psoriatic arthritis.) The nice thing about IgA is that, while IgA is an autoimmune kidney disease with hereditary features, it's not considered a strong hereditary disease like cystic fibrosis or Huntington's chorea, known to affect multiple family members. Research suggests that IgAN is caused by a combination of genes and environmental factors. So, your child has a reasonably good chance to escape the condition. And we can't forget - medical science is here too - working to eradicate disease. I've been blessed to see many medical breakthroughs during my relatively long life - childhood leukemia protocols, transplants of various sorts, vaccines, and more. Every 5 years or so, a major improvement is made in the medical field. Right now, the autoimmune field is receiving considerable attention. So maybe, just maybe, something will become available where we don't have to worry about IgA, lupus, and others. That is my fervent wish. I also remind myself to control my thoughts and live each day to the fullest - not to sabotage myself by worrying about things that may not happen. That also gives me peace. Yes, life is meant to be lived...well!
