Type 1 Diabetes for 58 years. Current EGFR of 24, serum creatinine 2.16. Recent blood tests showed proteinuria of 1711. Saw nephrologist this past Monday and he put me on Spironolactone 25 mg in order to reduce elevated protein. He also put me on Sodium Polystyrene Sulfonate (SPS) Powder which reduces potassium (Spironolactone increases potassium). I'm concerned about taking the SPS since it can have so many side effects. Has anyone else ever used it and if so, any issues?

I have stage 4 ckd. My neph put me on spironolactone and it did reduce the protein but also increased the potassium. She took me off the spironolactone. potassium went down. One of the reasons she stopped it my pharmacy couldn't get it.
Hi I m on spironolactone -100mg. And I also take lokelma powders to counter the potassium. At first I took 10 mg per day but then down to 5 mg. It takes a few months to settle down but it really does deal well with the proteinuria. The lokelma powders are expensive£300 per box of 30 Another reason to stop you from accessing this medicine
