Hi thereMy GFR has fallen to about 14 now , this happened over the last 6 months
I have IGA nephropathy
Over the last 2 months my skin has become very sensitive.
I'm wondering does anyone else have this issue??
It feels like sandpaper / prickly and even like a slight burning/ hot feeling
It started out in my hands and feet and has now spread over my arms, legs and back.
It's a lot worse in the heat, so I have to put a cooling fan on me wherever possible
If anything touches my skin, even my clothes and bedding, it becomes almost unbearable
My nephrologist doesn't think it's neuropathy and only prescribed me gabapentin because I was so desperate.
I've been taking gabapentin for 2 weeks and it hasn't made any difference
My nephrologist has consulted with a neurologist and they will take a cervical x-ray soon.
I'm finding it very debilitating and have been having dark thoughts of ending it all recently.. a long with everything else this feels like the last straw.
If anyone out there has has this condition I would really your input.
Thanks so much in advance
Cheers
Scott

Have they checked your Phosphourus Levels ?...Kidney Disease causes Phosphourus Levels to increase and will cause burning and itching among other things...They can give you Binders and they help greatly....until then ice bags can help sooth it...hang in there
I agree. Phosphorus levels and just a general build up of toxins. I have vasculitis and I sometimes get the sensitive pain. Sometimes I feel I am being pricked with needles. Hope you get some help.
Do any lotions help?Have you considered consulting with a dermatologist? So sorry that your going through this and not getting the help you need now. Amy chance you get a second opinion? Hoping and praying for a faster solution.BTW I usually put lotions in the fridge so they're icy cold when I use them and this helps me.
I'm sorry your skin is so sensitive. It sounds like neuropathy to me. If the gabapentin doesn't help after a little more time, there are other possibilities. Hope you feel better soon.
I have found Aloe Vera to help. Also putting that in the frig and using it cold cools your skin. Cool oatmeal baths helped me as well. Stay strong I know it's hard but know we care! Huggs XOXO my friend! God bless!
So sorry to hear what you’re going through and how you feel. I am sending you the biggest hug and keep us posted re how you are doing.
I have had a terrible skin issue and want to share, as it may mean something to you, but it’s certainly not as extreme as you. I was started on an ace inhibitor. After a significant time my skin really changed, rougher to touch, my facial pores more obvious, face really red and very hot, tingling and sensation like crawling under skin, mainly to my face. Then I noticed my face was swelling. I stopped that certain drug and ended up in A&E…skin got better and eventually cleared, tingling still slightly present but it was a definite serious allergy to the drug.
Fast forward to another drug, this time a change from an ace inhibitor to a angiotensin receptor blocker ( both were to keep blood pressure lower) by my GP. This drug worked very well until one day my face started to tingle badly and become red, so I stopped the drug straight away, as I was quite scared after the last time. Anyway to cut a long story short, my GP felt I had been on the angiotensin receptor blocker a significant time and she didn’t think my face issue was anything to do with the drug…I wasn’t sure at all about that comment. She advised me to restart the drug and she wanted to give me a skin wash and cream. I agreed, but had serious doubts….but it was actually like a miracle , within days all the skin issue started to improve very quickly. So I now remain on the angiotensin receptor blocker, still using the wash and creams with no problems . I think we do get serious reactions to medication at times Kiwi, so perhaps it’s worth another chat with your Dr. That’s all I can share, but hope it helps. Wishing you well and you will be in my prayers x
